Tertiary students
Fulltime tertiary students can get 40% off* the adult cash fare. Take your tertiary student ID to the campus ticket agent to get your MAXX tertiary sticker. Purchase your GO Rider card and load it with a 10 ride tertiary fare to receive discounted travel. Too easy!
School students
Children aged from 5 -15 years inclusive (until 16th birthday) can travel on the child fare**. Fulltime high school students aged between 16 to 19 years inclusive (until 20th birthday) can also travel on the child fare, provided they are able to show a current ARTA approved MAXX student ID, or are wearing a recognized school uniform. Student ID cards are not required for primary and intermediate school children. Child fares can be purchased with cash or loaded onto a smart card (like Go Rider) either at ticket agents or on the bus.

*Tertiary students
- Fulltime students are eligible for tertiary discounted fares.
- The Tertiary discount is 40% off the adult cash fare and only applies to purchases of tertiary 10 ride tickets and 7- Day Northern Passes.
- To purchase tertiary discounted tickets or when travelling on buses utilsing tertiary tickets, students must show a valid tertiary Student ID card from their tertiary institution with a MAXX Tertiary student ID sticker applied. An adult fare will be charged to tertiary students if the correct ID is not shown on bus.
- MAXX tertiary student ID stickers are issued by registered tertiary institutions within the Auckland region. These include the University of Auckland, AUT, Unitec, Massey University and Manukau Institute of Technology and over 180 private tertiary institutions.
- Tertiary fares are only available as 10 ride multi journey fares loaded on a smart card.
- The Tertiary discount is not applicable to cash fares on bus.
- The level of tertiary discount may be subject to review and change without notification.
- Tertiary discounted bus tickets cannot be used for travel on Nite Rider, LINK or special services.
- Tertiary discounted bus tickets can only be purchased from selected ticket agents. A full list of tertiary ticket agents is available at www.maxx.co.nz
- Tertiary bus tickets cannot be loaded on bus.
**School Students
- Children aged from 5 to 15 years inclusive (until 16th birthday) can travel on the child fare.
- Student ID cards are not required for primary and intermediate school children. Primary and intermediate students may request a MAXX Student ID card through MAXX on (09) 366 6400.
- Fulltime secondary school students aged between 16 to 19 years inclusive (until 20th birthday) can also travel on the child fare, provided they are able to show a current ARTA approved MAXX student ID, or are wearing a recognized school uniform. There will be no exceptions to this policy – proof of school attendance must be provided at all times.
- Child fares are available as cash fares or as 10 ride tickets loaded on a smart card.
- GO Rider is the smart card used to pay for bus travel on any Metrolink, LINK, North Star, GO WEST or Waka Pacific bus.
- 10 ride tickets can be purchased from the bus driver or from bus ticket agents.

- Child fares are not valid for travel on LINK bus services, Nite Rider or special events.
